US carriers make every business register before it texts from a regular phone number. This is called 10DLC. If you connected a Telnyx number, you register right inside Direct REI under Settings → Phone → Text messaging registration (10DLC). It registers under your own Telnyx account, so you own the approval.
The two steps
- Register your business (the "brand"). Click Register brand and enter your legal business name, EIN (if you have one), and full business address exactly as they appear on your tax documents.
- Register what you'll text about (the "campaign"). Once the brand is verified, click Register a campaign →. This is the step reviewers reject most often, and it's where Direct REI helps the most.
Telnyx bills the review fees to your Telnyx account: about $19 one-time plus a monthly campaign fee (about $10/mo for the standard types, less for Low Volume). Keep enough balance in your Telnyx account — a campaign submitted without enough funds is rejected.
What reviewers look for
A person at the carrier registry opens the links you give them and reads your wording. The common reasons for a rejection:
- A page they can't open. Your opt-in page, privacy policy, and SMS terms must be live web pages anyone can open — no login, no typos in the address.
- No clear opt-in. The form needs a phone field and its own checkbox that starts unchecked, with wording that says what kind of texts people agree to, how often, "Msg & data rates may apply", and how to reply STOP and HELP.
- Wording that doesn't cover every message type you pick. If you tick Marketing and Customer care, the checkbox wording has to mention both.
- A privacy policy without the texting sentence. It must say mobile information is never shared with third parties for marketing.
- Sample messages and replies without your business name, or without "Reply STOP to opt out".
Let Direct REI set it up: "Get approved the first time"
The top of the campaign form walks you through it.
- Your opt-in page. Pick one of your Direct REI websites and click Add the opt-in page. We add a Text Updates page (name, mobile phone, and an unchecked texting checkbox with the right wording), an SMS Terms page, and either a privacy policy or the texting sentence added to yours. Your other pages stay as they are, and the three links in the form are filled in. No website yet? Pick + Make a new Direct REI website for it (normal website pricing applies). Have your own website? Pick My own website — show me the wording to add and copy the checkbox wording and the privacy sentence to your site.
- Publish. Reviewers can only open a published website, so click Publish the website (or Publish the changes) before you register.
- Fill it in for me. Writes the campaign description, how people opt in, and sample messages from your business details and the message types you tick.
- Check now. Opens your pages the way a reviewer does, reads the checkbox wording, and checks that your Telnyx balance covers the review. It also runs when you click Register campaign — if it finds a problem, it tells you what to fix and the button changes to Submit anyway, so you can still send it if you're sure.
Once you're approved
Numbers are cleared for texting on the approved campaign on their own. A number you buy in Direct REI after approval is cleared the moment you buy it, and any number still waiting is cleared within the hour, so there's nothing to click. (If the card shows a Clear numbers for texting button, you can click it to do it right now.) Carriers can take a few hours after that to finish switching a number on. A sole-proprietor registration covers one number.
If it's rejected anyway
The registration card shows the reviewer's reason. Click Fix and register again, change what they named, run Check now, and submit. Most rejections are fixed in one round.
