The AI sequence writer is good. With a few overrides it gets great. Here's the framework.
The default 4-message structure
New campaigns start with a 4-message cadence — initial pitch, two follow-ups, and a break-up message. You can shorten to a one-shot blast or extend up to 12 touches in the Sequence schedule section of the sequence editor (Email or Texting page) — + Add email adds a message, the × on a row removes it. The principles below apply to any length: start with a hook, end with a break-up, fill the middle with variety.
One thing to know about length: Generate with AI is metered per message, so a longer cadence draws more of your monthly AI-sequence allowance (a 10-message generate uses 10). Hand-writing or editing any message is always free — see Plans, caps & credits explained.
- Email 1 — Initial outreach. Day 0. Who you are, why you're reaching out, one specific ask. Should feel like a warm intro, not a pitch.
- Email 2 — First follow-up. Day 4 (configurable). New angle or piece of value. Acknowledges they didn't reply without being passive-aggressive.
- Middle follow-ups (if you extend past 4). Days 9, 16, 23+ depending on your cadence. Each one should hit a different angle — a proof point, a market reference, a question, an offer. Avoid repeating the same pitch with different words.
- Final email — Break-up. "Last note from me — door's open." Generates more replies than any other email in the sequence (counterintuitively). Always the last message regardless of total length.
What the AI does well
- Voice matching. Reads your profile + Reply Goal and picks a natural register (casual operator, professional broker, etc.).
- Cold-outreach guardrails. Never starts with "I hope this email finds you well." Never says "I came across your company and was impressed." Never stacks 3 questions.
- Length discipline. Initial emails stay under 80 words. Most cold-outreach copywriting bloats; the AI defaults short.
- Role consistency. If your campaign is set to "Buying", the AI never offers to sell anything. If it's "Selling", it never asks to buy from them.
What you'll usually want to override
- Subject lines. AI defaults to safe + descriptive. You want curiosity + specificity. Best subjects mention their market or company name. ("Off-market deals in Austin?", "Question about Smith Builders").
- The hook. AI hooks are generic. Replace the first sentence with one specific thing — "Saw your permits for the Eastside project" or "Noticed your firm bought 3 lots in the Heights last month."
- The ask. Make sure the one question is actually answerable in a sentence. If they have to think hard, they don't reply.
The Reply Goal is everything
Each campaign has a Reply Goal field — it's what the AI reads before writing every reply. Fill it in with what you actually want to learn from them, not your sales pitch. Four quick-pick presets are built in — Discover buy box, Qualify budget & timeline, Book a call, Partnership / referrals — and you can edit freely after picking one.
- Bad: "Sell them on our service"
- Good: "Find out what kind of land they're acquiring this quarter, price range, and timeline"
- Bad: "Get a meeting"
- Good: "Determine if they have off-market deals we'd be a buyer for"
How to write Email 1
If you're rewriting the AI's output, follow this structure:
- Hook (1 sentence). Reference something specific you noticed.
- Why you're reaching out (1 sentence). Who you are + what you do + why it's relevant to them.
- The ask (1 sentence, ONE question). Make it answerable in 5 words.
- Sign-off. Your name. Optional phone. Don't bury contact info in a 6-line signature.
Email 4 — the break-up
This is the most replied-to email in the entire sequence. Counterintuitive, but reliable.
The shape: "Hey {first_name} — figured I'd close the loop. If you're not the right person or this isn't a fit, no worries. If timing changes, my door's always open. — {your_name}"
Why it works: removes the implied pressure of the previous 3 emails. People reply because they finally feel safe to say "actually, talk in Q1" or "you should reach out to Jim instead."
Test on 10 before sending to 100
Always send a sequence to 5-10 contacts first. Wait 2-3 days. If replies look good, scale up. If subject lines are bombing (no opens, no replies), iterate on those first.
